A Mock Survey is intended to measure compliance with the CMS standards and regulations and mirror your actual federal survey. Because of the numerous changes in the Requirements of Participation, keeping up with the details can be overwhelming for the facility staff. Our mock surveyors are regulatory experts who have a passion to teach and provide your staff with understanding and practical solutions to continue their work in a systems-oriented environment. At the end of this session, the mock survey team discusses the top areas of risk to provide the team with a solid place to focus their initial problem solving. Within 2 weeks of the end of the mock survey, a detailed report that includes information reviewed as a part of the off-site prep, center-specific quality information, findings and recommendations for correction will be provided and reviewed in a conference call.

So, the mock survey has been completed, and those areas of non-compliance with Federal regulations have been identified. We can come into your facility approximately 45 days after the mock survey exit and complete a follow-up survey. We will review your mock survey findings, along with the plan of correction you initiated – just like a follow-up survey by the state survey agency. This can add to your confidence in ensuring you are prepared for the “real thing” – your annual certification survey.

At times, CMS will impose a directed plan of correction which may include the requirement of oversight from an outside consultant to ensure that the plan is being followed by the facility. You may have experienced this type of directed plan of correction (DPOC) upon receiving a citation at F880 – Infection Prevention and Control. Many times, education modules are required to be completed by your entire staff. While many states are no longer required to complete focused infection control surveys – starting in 2024 – they can bring this one out at their discretion.
